Governance That Builds Trust
Helping nonprofit boards make governance simpler, clearer, and more effective.
Helping nonprofit boards make governance simpler, clearer, and more effective.
For many years, I — like many others — thought good governance meant having the right policies and procedures in place. But through decades of hands-on experience, I’ve come to understand something deeper:
Good governance is about trust.
When stakeholders trust a board — its intentions, its decisions, and its way of working — organizations thrive. Rules and procedures matter, but they are only effective when they earn and protect that trust.
I’m a retired lawyer with over 40 years of experience advising, serving on, and chairing boards in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. I’ve helped lead a university through major structural change, served on the board of a hospital undergoing amalgamation, and delivered governance training to more than 30 cooperatives in Ethiopia and Ghana. I’ve also worked with Canadian charities and arts organizations, always with one goal in mind: to help boards govern with clarity, purpose, and accountability.
I work with nonprofit boards to:
• Demystify what governance really means
• Connect everyday board practices to the bigger picture of trust and accountability
• Identify simple, effective ways to strengthen governance without overwhelming staff or volunteers
• Deliver engaging talks or workshops that spark reflection and real change
Whether you’re a seasoned board or just starting out, I can help your team better understand its role — and lead with confidence and integrity.
